Description

Suibian is an agile sword with a white blade that has the characters of the sword’s name engraved on it. Wei Wuxian did not intend to name it Suibian, but he could not think of a suitable name for it. He told Jiang Fengmian to name it “whatever.” When the sword was given to him, he found that it had literally been named Suibian, meaning “whatever”.

Use

First Life

While hunting water ghosts, Lan Wangji compliments the sword, only to be appalled at the irreverent name.

Along with the other young masters, Wei Wuxian surrenders Suibian to Wen Chao at the Qishan Wen Clan’s indoctrination. Once Jiang Cheng reclaims their swords while Wei Wuxian is trapped in the Burial Mounds, he carries Suibian with him until Wei Wuxian’s return.

After the Sunshot Campaign, due to the loss of his Golden Core, Wei Wuxian refused to carry Suibian by his side. He suspected that many would attempt to spar with him, and he did not want to let his secret out. As a result, however, he was frequently criticized as “arrogant.

Second Life

Following Wei Wuxian’s death, Suibian is kept in Jin Guangyao’s treasure chamber alongside other relics. The sword had sealed itself shortly after its master’s demise, not allowing anyone besides Wei Wuxian to pull it out.

Once Jin Guangyao draws Hensheng on the resurrected Wei Wuxian, accusing him of being responsible for his wife Qin Su’s death, Wei Wuxian attempts to defend himself with Suibian. When he pulls out the sword, he inadvertently reveals himself as the Yiling Patriarch.

On their way to the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian uses Suibian to carve a melon for himself and Lan Wangji to eat.

After the Second Siege of the Burial Mounds, Wen Ning unveils the matter of Wei Wuxian’s golden core to Jiang Cheng by forcing Jiang Cheng to pull out the sword. When Suibian emerges, Wen Ning informs Jiang Cheng that it is because the sword recognized the golden core inside him as Wei Wuxian’s.In the aftermath, Jiang Cheng rushes around Lotus Pier, demanding people pull out the sword, though none are able.
